Jass scoreboard

This is the Jasstafel, the slate scoreboard that lies on the table in a Swiss pub. Each team chalks strokes onto its Z and writes the rest as a number at the right edge. You type in the points, and the board writes them the way you would by hand.

For tricks, the other team automatically gets the rest of the 157 points, times the same factor, and Undo takes both numbers back together. You write Weis and Stöck for each team on its own.

Tidy up rewrites the same total with the smallest remainder and the fewest strokes, the way you’d wipe the board at the table and write it out cleanly again.

Marks

If you play several games, you keep marks on the back: one for every Match, one for the Bergpreis and two for winning the game.

What was written

Nobody has written anything yet.

A stroke at the top counts 100, a stroke across the diagonal 50 and a stroke at the bottom 20. At the top right a V stands for 500 and an X for 1,000, and the remainder under 20 goes at the right edge.

The board stays saved in this browser until you wipe it.

Frequently asked questions

How do you keep score on the Jasstafel?
You keep score with strokes on a Z: a stroke on the top line counts 100, a stroke across the diagonal 50 and a stroke on the bottom line 20. You write anything below 20 as a number at the right edge.
Why is the fifth stroke drawn across the others?
The fifth stroke goes across the other four so that you can count the strokes in groups of five. Five twenties are 100 points at a glance, and five hundreds are 500.
What do V and X mean on the Jasstafel?
A V stands for 500 points and an X for 1,000. You write them at the top, from the right, when a round with multipliers brings in a great many points. An X on the diagonal is something else: two crossed fifties, so 100.
Do the points always have to be written the same way?
No, all that matters is that the total is right and the board stays easy to read. For example, you can write 88 points as four twenties and an 8, or as one hundred and −12. The Jasstafel on wyys.ch keeps the number at the edge as small as possible, so it writes 88 points as four twenties and an 8, not as a fifty, a twenty and 18.
What are the marks for on a Jass evening?
If you play several games, you keep marks on the back of the board: one for every Match, one for the Bergpreis and two for a game won. At the end of the evening the team with the most marks wins. It’s best to agree beforehand on anything else that earns a mark.
